The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed to come up with a modern and multi-storeyed vegetable market complex to replace the old and ‘not in good condition’ vegetable market at Machabollaram Alwal Municipality.
The estimated Rs.4.75-crore project looks at setting up a multi-level complex spread in three blocks and apart from facilitating 144 shops, be able to accommodate office space in two floors. Following a local representation, GHMC Additional Commissioner (Planning) Ronald Rose and North Zone Commissioner S. Harikrishna had inspected the site and the Standing Committee recently approved the proposal.
It was noted that the present market condition was not in good shape and the facility was functioning like that of a typical village market not suited for the urban scenario. For improvement of the conditions and also to utilise the space properly, a consultant was also appointed.
The proposals prepared by the consultant which were approved by the Standing Committee look at development of the vegetable market over 1,747 square yards split into three blocks with cellar floor for parking.
Apart from a ground floor for 144 shops, the other floors have been proposed for office and banks. The expenditure for the project will be met under the municipal corporation’s Markets, Shopping Complexes head of account.
