Mayor Majid Hussain has said the conduct of the prestigious World Congress Metropolis Meet is top on the GHMC’s priority for the year. The event, which would be held in October, will see representatives from more than 100 countries in attendance.

At a review meeting, the Mayor said proper signages and road marking would play a very vital role in giving the city a proper look and in boosting the capital’s brand

The Telangana Chief Minister should be kept in the loop while planning the prestigious event, he said. Due importance has to be given to the 360 heritage structures within the GHMC limits, he added.

He proposed formation of individual committees for the same in another two days. GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar was directed to fix up deadlines to form the committees.

Mr. Somesh Kumar said there was a plan to constitute infrastructure-related committees, an organising committee, heritage committee, green energy, and beautification committee, traditional and cultural committee to coordinate the works in a phased manner. Existing street lights would be converted to LEDs to provide for better lighting and to reduce power consumption.

Food scheme

The Mayor also called for starting 50 food scheme centres a month. Zonal Comissioners were told to submit plans for taking up reverse osmosis plants to floor leaders so that 150 locations covering each ward would be selected.

Muskan

Around 1,500 community-based low-cost playschools, to be called ‘Muskan’, are being planned on the lines of ‘Bachpan’. Similarly, multi-skill development centres would also be set up in each zone as also day-care centres for senior citizens.
