A sexagenarian black magician, who was duping people with false promises that women can give birth to male child with his medicines, was arrested by the police in Old City on Tuesday.

Along with the accused Shaik Abdul Raheem alias Bhai Miya, 68, the Charminar police also held a Government employee Mohd. Sadiq, 55, and his wife Samina Sultana. The couple allegedly approached Bhai Miya to give medicines to their daughter-in-law Habeeba Fathima to bear male child and the black magician outraged her modesty in the guise of extending treatment, the South zone DCP V. Satyanarayana said.

The victim Fathima, 19, got married to Sadiq’s son Mohd. Mansoor in August, 2016, who works in Abu Dhabi. After the marriage, Mansoor went back to Abu Dhabi. “But the in-laws started harassing her soon after learning that she was pregnant. They took her to the black magician saying he would help her bear baby boy,” the DCP said.

In the guise of treatment, the black magician molested her by groping her body, stating that he can transform the foetus into a male child. “Even Samina Sultana told her daughter-in-law that she could give birth to her son because of the black magician’s treatment only,” Mr. Satyanarayana explained.

Even as the housewife refused to meet the black magician, her in-laws forcibly took her to him and harassed her physically and mentally. Her husband’s sisters cut her hair while father-in-law beat her. They allegedly even threatened to kill her if she refused to take the medicines given by the black magician. At the instance of his family members Mansoor divorced her through ‘Triple Talaq’ from Abu Dhabi.

Ms. Fathima gave birth to a baby girl three months ago after which the in-laws began demanding ₹10 lakh additional dowry to allow her to live with them. On her complaint, police registered case and arrested the magician and her in-laws.
