KCR promises better life for people

Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday reiterated that his government was committed to develop Hyderabad into a global city by addressing all infrastructural problems.

In spite of some previous Chief Ministers’ tall claims of developing the city, the fact remained that knee-deep water logging in front of the Assembly, on Raj Bhavan Road and near the Chief Minister’s camp office has become a regular feature whenever there was a heavy shower. “It’s shameful to watch such sights. Problems of people living in low-lying areas are even worse,” he said.

The storm-water drain system of Hyderabad was destroyed completely with the disappearances of ponds and tanks.

He would call a meeting soon with the GHMC and HMDA officials to address the problems of drainage and storm-water drains and assured to resolve the drainage problems by next year by taking up the work on war-footing.

Regarding drinking water, the Chief Minister said his government was in favour of quenching the people’s thirst with Krishna water since the city was in Krishna Basin. Getting water from Godavari was a costly affair as it requires power. The government would pursue speedy completion of Krishna third-phase water scheme to reduce the burden on Singur project.

Stating that traffic was one of the major problems, the Chief Minister said it would be addressed scientifically by decongesting road traffic by developing alternative mass transport systems such as metro rail.

The outer ring road project too would be completed at the earliest as about 30 km out of 152 km road was pending.

Further, he said he would take a tour of the Old City soon to meet people, learn their problems and address them. A high-level police officers team would also be sent to London and New York cities soon to study the closed-circuit cameras system for improving maintenance of law and order as studies had show 80 per cent drop in the crime rate in the two cities after the installation of CC cameras all over the two cities.
