Students and parents have represented to the JNTU, Hyderabad seeking waiver of attendance rule in view of the disrupted academic activity in the month-long Telangana general strike in October.
In separate representations submitted to the JNTUH Vice-Chancellor Rameshwar Rao, students argued that they lost entire month of classes during the general strike period when academic institutions were forced to shut and RTC buses were off the roads.
Parents pointed out that their children could not attend classes for lack of transport facilities when some colleges remained open also.
Boycott of classes was a regular phenomenon for the last one year. Moreover, there was a fear factor that forced students stay away from classes, parents said.
Some public representatives also apparently called up the JNTUH Vice-Chancellor and requested him to consider waiving attendance shortage due to the peculiar situation existing in this region.
JNTUH Registrar K. Lalkishore said the merit of representations was being looked into, and a committee consisting of Director of Evaluation, Controller of Examinations and other senior officials will discuss the issue. “A decision will be taken in one or two days,” he said.
