ICAI to train over one lakh accountants in GST

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) will collaborate to train as many as 1 lakh accountants in Goods and Services Tax accounting.

Addressing a gathering at FTAPCCI, ICAI national president Amit A. Apte said that the course, which has an objective of making SMEs GST compliant, will be Government of India sponsored. The 50-hour classroom training programme, which has been approved by the NITI Ayog, will be launched in a month.

“On our front, we initiated discusssion with the Ministry, in pursuance to the same, the Ministry approached NITI Aayog for approval,”Mr Apte said. Cost management accountants have good career opportunities as they are absorbed by the industry. Recent placements of ICAI students have seen packages from ₹ 7.5 lakh to ₹ 17.5 lakh, he said.

President of the South Asian Federation of Accountants P V S Jagan Mohan Rao spoke of how accounting is developing in South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation member countries.
