The Cyberabad police on Thursday arrested Sachin Uppal on charge of murdering his wife Reetu Uppal alias Reetu Sareen, a former air hostess at their house in Uppal four days ago.

Addressing a press conference here, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Malkajagiri), M. Ravichandran Reddy claimed that the woman was smothered to death by her husband Sachin Uppal after a spat with her over some issue.

Explaining the turn of events on the fateful night, the official said that Sachin came to house along with his friend K. Rakesh Kumar after having liquor at some place. A little later Sachin and Reetu had a quarrel over some issue after which the former hit her.

Feeling insulted the woman went inside her bedroom and told that she will inform about the incident to her parents. “Sachin got agitated as the woman was constantly screaming. He went inside the bedroom, took a pillow and smothered Reetu to death by placing it on her face,” the official said.

Soon after Sachin called in the parents of the woman and told them that she was unwell. By the time her parents came and shifted the woman to hospital she died, the official added.

The police registered a case under various sections of Indian Penal Code against Sachin, his father Ramesh Uppal, mother Sima Uppal, brother Nithin Uppal and his friend Rakesh Kumar. While Sachin and Rakesh were arrested the police are making efforts to nab the other three persons.
