The abduction of a new-born baby near Niloufer Childrens Hospital in Nampally three days ago ended in tragedy on Tuesday, when the investigators found that the baby boy was dead. Special teams of Hyderabad police have rushed to Bandhonipalli village in Nagarkurnool district where the baby was believed to have been buried.
The baby was born to Pandu and Nirmala, who live in Uppguda of Old City, a week ago. Three days after the birth, the baby had fallen sick. While Nirmala was in Petlaburuzu hospital where she gave birth, her mother Kalpana took the baby to Niloufer hospital on Sunday for check-up. The grandmother left the baby in the custody of a woman who befriended her claiming that she was hospital worker, and went out to have tea. When she returned, the woman had disappeared with the baby.
The Nampally police of Central zone registered an abduction case and launched a hunt for the kidnapper. The crucial clue came in the form of a video clip in which the woman was seen walking away with the baby. Police traced the driver of a three-wheeler who dropped the woman at Lakdikapool. They caught the kidnapper’s aunt, who told the police that the baby boy had died on the way to their village in Nagarkurnool. “Claiming the baby as their own, they buried him in the village. Teams have gone to Bandhonipalli to exhume the body,” Hyderabad police said. The kidnapper is still at large.
