The owner of a hospital and its doctor have been charged in a criminal case for alleged medical negligence that resulted in the death of a patient. The case was booked after receiving directions from a local court here in Ranga Reddy district.

Saroornagar Inspector A.V.R. Narasimha Rao said cases were registered against hospital owner G. Venkateswara Rao and duty doctor under relevant provisions of the IPC and further investigation were on. Twenty-year-old patient Shravan Kumar had been admitted to the private hospital on February 1. Kumar, however, developed serious complications the next day.

The patient’s father, Srinivas, alleged that his son developed problems after the duty doctor failed to attend to the patient on time. He was later rushed to another private hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. An aggrieved Srinivas approached the court which, after hearing arguments, directed Saroornagar police to register a case and submit a status report.
