Five children suffered burns after a mini-gas cylinder exploded in their house at Singareni Colony in Saidabad on Sunday morning.

The injured children — Sridevi (10), Pavan (15), Tarun (8), Sushma (5) and Varalakshmi (4) were shifted to the Osmania General Hospital where the condition of Sridevi is critical.

The explosion occurred when a housewife Laxmi was preparing breakfast in front of her house. “Laxmi was preparing chapattis when the cylinder exploded resulting in injuries to the children playing near her house,” Saidabad Sub-Inspector S. Sekhar Reddy said.

He said gas leakage from the 5 kg cylinder could have triggered the blast. Police registered a case under Section 337 (causing hurt) of IPC and further investigations are on.
