Interrogation of Rajesh Gupta, who has been detained by the city police for running a spice adulteration racket, has revealed that the accused had started his unit in the premises of ex-MP Anjan Kumar Yadav at Handrikapuram in February this year.
According to south zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Rajesh confessed that between 2012 to 2014 he was preparing and selling duplicate poppy (khus-khus) to one Mahender, a wholesaler at Begum Bazaar and to other establishments in Delhi and Raipur. He used to supply 30 bags of the adulterated poppy seeds per week to Mahender, according to a press release.
In February this year, Rajesh started the unit in a premises belonging to Mr. Yadav at Handrikapuram in Hussaini Alam. The accused took a portion of the house from Shankar, the brother of the ex-MP, said the release. Rajesh hired nearly 25 boys for preparing spurious pepper, poppy, cumin and shahjeera, and also used to process the low/rotten quality of pepper and poppy to fine quality.
Rajesh, a native of Shahjanhanpur in Uttar Pradesh, has three brothers who are into foodgrain business. He would visit Hyderabad to meet his son, who finished his Intermediate from St. Francis College, Kachiguda, and was later admitted into Aurora College, Shamirpet, in 2011. In 2010, the accused came into contact with one Kanhaiah Lal and Mahender, who run wholesale shops at Begum Bazaar. Rajesh then started supplying the adulterated goods to them.
Some of the shops which would buy the goods are Ashish Traders, Babulal Solanki Saini Traders, H.P. Traders, Vinod Trading Co. etc.
So far, the police have arrested three persons from Uttar Pradesh and 11 traders from Begum Bazaar in connection with the case. After Rajesh’s arrest, cases have been registered by the Hussaini Alam police under Sections 420, 272, 273 read with120 (b) under of the Indian Penal Code.
