In a bid to curb noise pollution on roads across the city, Hyderabad traffic police would be sending messages to mobile users and vehicle owners from Monday.
An SMS would advise users to limit honking.
Talking to The Hindu , Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar said initially, about 25 lakh users of Reliance Jio in the State capital will receive traffic advisory messages from Monday.
As part of Corporate Social Responsibility, Reliance Jio network had agreed to send bulk messages to their users, he said.
“Our aim is to curb the increasing noise levels in the city. The SMSes will be sent twice a week,” he said.
In the message, police will appeal to citizens to avoid unnecessary honking, which is punishable under Motor Vehicle Act. “Messages will include other traffic advisories too,” Mr. Kumar said.
Traffic police would also approach other telecom operators including Airtel, Idea, Vodafone and BSNL to send traffic awareness messages to their customers.
Meanwhile, traffic police is also planning to start an awareness and enforcement drive against the rising noise pollution in the city.
