Coal production hit due to rainfall in Adilabad

June 19, 2015 04:48 pm | Updated 04:48 pm IST - ADILABAD:

Coal production in the open cast mines of Singareni Collieries in Bellampalli and Srirampur area was hit slightly owing to overnight rainfall. In the three open-cast mines in Bellampalli area production fell by about 4,000 tonnes from the average daily production of 18,000 tonnes of coal.

Officials said that there was no water logging condition in the open-cast mines as water was being drained out by motors. The slushy conditions however, were posing problems for the heavy vehicles involved in extraction and transport of coal.

In Srirampur area, there was loss in production in the lone open-cast mine due to the slippery and slushy conditions within the pit. Power outages also impacted coal production even in the underground mines, the cumulative loss being about 2,500 tonnes against an average production of about 7,700 tonnes of coal per day, according to officials.

Meanwhile, Jainur mandal received the highest rainfall of 20 cm until 8 a.m. on Friday. Other mandals which recorded good rainfall are Bejjur with over 5 cm and Mancherial and Rebbena with over 4 cm.
