City-based student Meher Rishika of BVRIT Hyderabad College of Engineering for Women won the “India Skills Competition – 2017” in IT Software Solutions for Business Skills, an initiative of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Meher received the award from Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Singh Rudy and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh. She is the only girl selected to represent India at the “World Skills 2017” at Abu Dhabi in the ITSSB category.

The national competition was held at New Delhi after a rigorous three tier elimination in which 379 students from all over India participated. Thanking the college chairman K.V. Vishnu Raju and principal of the college K.V.N. Sunitha, she said the unique Women in Software Engineering (WISE) programme at BVRITH laid the foundation for this success.

“The programme taught to me handle pressure. I really want to be the first Indian girl to win a medal at the WorldSkills event,” said the IIM aspirant.
