For all those, who are facing inconvenience due to installation of bollards between Madina and Charminar stretch, here is some good news. The GHMC is all set to remove the bollards on the stretch to ensure smooth drive to motorists.
Right from Pathergati to Charminar, the Corporation had installed bollards in the middle of the road to regulate traffic from moving over the granite paved road in June early this year.
Though quite a few bollards were removed before the Ganesh idols immersion ceremony, rest of them continue to cause inconvenience to road users. These bollards have not only given an ugly look to the road but also have affected traffic flow as vehicles are forced to move at snail's pace due to lack of sufficient space, fumes Ahmedullah, a pushcart vendor.
It's not just the motorists, even pedestrians find it difficult to walk around. As a result, many try to avoid visiting shops on this side of the road and eventually this is affecting our business, he adds. A few bollards that were removed are placed near the entrance of Mir Alam Mandi, occupying the little bit of place that is left. And the few that are left have developed cracks at the base and are in a precarious condition.
All the bollards were installed as a temporary measure to regulate traffic. The granite laying work is left unfinished due to different reasons and once the works are completed, they will be removed. The works would commence shortly and efforts were on to complete them by March, said K. Dhanunjaya Reddy, GHMC Additional Commissioner (Planning).
