BIS raids packaged drinking water unit

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) of Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, has conducted raid on ‘Aqua Spring Enterprises’ located at Mayur Marg in Begumpet for packing and selling packaged drinking water in 20-litre PET jars without a valid BIS licence.

In a press release, BIS Head and Scientist Ameer-uz-Zaman stated that the firm selling water under the brand ‘AQUA Spring’ was packing water without testing and not following any BIS standard requirements or hygienic practices.

Action was being initiated against the firm under the BIS Act 2016 and it entails imposing a fine of up to ₹5 lakh or two years imprisonment or both under Section 29 of the Act.
