Worried over the aggressive stand taken by the Telangana Congress MPs on the statehood issue in the wake of suicide by two youths in the last three days, AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad has invited them for a meeting on Tuesday in New Delhi.
After the MPs stalled the proceedings of the Lok Sabha on Monday leading to its adjournment for a couple of hours, the Congress party's central leadership, to avoid further embarrassment, decided to make an appeal to the agitated MPs to observe restraint. They wanted the MPs not to disrupt the House as the debate on budget was expected to be taken up on Tuesday. Congress MP from Peddapalli G. Vivekananda told The Hindu on Monday that Mr. Azad had invited the party MPs for a meeting at 10 a.m. “We stormed into the Well of the House demanding a solution to the statehood issue as youth were ending their lives. We want the government to act,” he said.
Eight Congress MPs – Madhu Yaskhi, Ponnam Prabhakar, Dr. Vivekananda, G. Sukhender Reddy, Manda Jagannath, S. Rajaiah, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy and P. Balram Naik had stalled the proceedings prompting the leadership to convince them against resorting to similar act on Tuesday also.
