Adivasis want Lambadas removed from ST list

Adivasis of erstwhile undivided Adilabad district on Thursday submitted memoranda to respective Tahsildars demanding removal of Lambadas from the list of Scheduled Tribes. They also demanded immediate suspension of issue of ST or Agency Area certificates, also known as the Local Scheduled Tribe certificate, to Lambadas alleging that the latter were not from the Scheduled Tribe. The protest programme was organised by Adivasi Hakkula Porata Samiti or Tudum Debba wherein a 63-page memorandum was submitted to respective Tahsildars. The memorandum carred copies of various documents purported to be a proof of the Lambadas not being Scheduled Tribe and the process which is said to have got them included in the list being incomplete.

At Indervelli mandal in Adilabad district, the police prevented the Adivasis not to take out a rally in view of the prohibitory orders in force. This had the Tahsildar himself coming to the martys column, the starting point of the proposed rally, to accept the memorandum saying he would forward it to the government.
