A 21-year-old man V. Rajesh died after he was hit by a lorry under the Hayathnagar police station limits, while he was fleeing from his attackers.

The incident took place at about 9.50 p.m. on Tuesday when Rajesh had gone to a pan shop to buy cigarettes. “Rajesh gave a ₹ 100 note. The shop owner Nadeem apparently had no change and gave the former ₹4 less, due to which an argument ensued ,” said an official from the Hayathnagar police station.

After the quarrel, Nadeem, who is physically challenged, called his cousin Aafi, who in turn brought three others and they started beating Rajesh. “Rajesh gave them the slip and was being chased when he was hit by the lorry,” said the official.

After the incident, a case was registered against Nadeem, Aafi and three others who beat up Rajesh under Section 304 (read with 34) of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The police are investigating and will arrest the accused soon, said the official. The entire episode was captured on a CCTV camera, due to which it was established that the initial quarrel had resulted in the unfortunate accident.
