Plea to safeguard Wakf properties

February 12, 2017 12:12 am | Updated 12:13 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Former Rajya Sabha member of the CPI and president of the All India Tanzeem-e-Insaf, Syed Aziz Pasha, alleged continuing encroachment of Wakf properties even after the state’s bifurcation with political backing. He alleged Wakf Board members’ role in aiding the encroachments.

He addressed the joint demonstration by Tanzeem-e-Insaf and Deccan Wakf Protection Society on Saturday, protesting against “political interference” in the appointment of chairman of the Wakf Board.

Mr. Pasha said that as pointed out by the Sachar Committee report, there were thousands of crores of rupees worth Wakf properties in Hyderabad but the board got only three per cent of their value as income. He attributed such low income to the “secret agreements” between the MIM and the TRS government.

President of the Deccan Wakf Protection Society Osman bin Mohammed Al Hajri alleged that even Muslim graveyards were being occupied by land sharks.
