A 24-year-old woman, who boarded an autorickshaw from Kashmere Gate while returning home from work, was robbed at knifepoint and thrown out of the moving auto in North East Delhi’s Shastri Park on Sunday night. Police have detained the auto driver for questioning and is looking into his role.

Police said the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. when the victim, a resident of Yamuna Vihar, boarded the shared autorickshaw from Kashmere Gate. “The woman said that four men were already in the auto; two of them sitting in the front with the driver. When the driver crossed Yamuna Bridge, the two sitting next to her misbehaved with her and snatched her bag. When she fought back, they opened her bag and took out her phone,” said a senior police officer.

The woman told the police that she tried to raise an alarm amid heavy traffic, but the driver slowed down and the accused pushed her out of the vehicle.

“The woman sustained injury in her leg. She went back home and called the police. During investigation, the auto driver was identified and has been detained for questioning. The vehicle has also been seized,” the officer said adding that a case under relevant Sections of theI PC has been registered.

Police are scanning the CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of the accused and are also looking into the role of the driver.
