A 26-year-old group sales manager-cum-radio jockey allegedly died after her speeding sedan fell into a 10-foot-deep drain while taking a turn at the Sector 85 roundabout here on Wednesday morning, the police said.
The deceased has been identified as Tania Khanna, a resident of Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad. She is survived by her parents and two brothers.
She was on the way to a friend’s house in Sector 137 when the incident happened. The friend’s vehicle was in front of Tania’s car at the time of the incident, the police said.
‘Heard a screech’
An eyewitness, who is a nursery owner, said he heard a screech and saw a speeding car coming towards him.
The eyewitness informed the Sector 85 roundabout chowki incharge about the incident around 2.30 a.m.
The Fire Department was immediately called to extract the car from the drain.
“The entire operation took around half-an-hour and the car was taken out of the drain. The windscreen was broken and Tania was lying on the back seat. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” said Satendra Kumar Rai, Station Officer, Phase 2 police station.
Got stuck in car
Hospital officials said it appears that Tania got stuck in the car and drowned when water gushed inside the vehicle.
“She was brought to the hospital around 3.30 a.m. We tried to revive her but failed despite best efforts. There were no injury marks on the body and it appears that she drowned,” said the Chief Medical Officer of Yatharth Hospital.
The police have informed her family and sent her body for post-mortem.
They said she was not drunk at the time of the incident.
