A 25-year-old woman allegedly chased away two masked men who had entered her house in north Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar on Wednesday morning. The police have registered a case and started investigation.
Women asleep
Umerah, a resident of Motia Khan Idgah Road, and her mother Shahzabeen were asleep when two masked men entered their house around 8.15 a.m. and threatened to shoot her mother.
“My father was away at work and our domestic help had gone to the doctor. We were sleeping. The duo was standing in front of us the moment we opened our eyes. I immediately started shouting for help,” said Ms. Umerah.
Country-made pistol
Stating that her mother’s safety was her utmost concern at the time, she claimed that one of the two men pointed a country-made pistol in her direction.
“I kicked him and he fell. I rushed towards my mother and challenged him to shoot me. When he did not, I realised he was simply bluffing,” she said.
The women managed to open a window to ensure the neighbours heard her screams. A few neighbours heard them crying for help and immediately rushed to their first-floor house.
According to the victim, the masked men got scared and fled. They left their bag behind in a hurry. Meanwhile, Ms. Umerah called the police.
“I opened the bag and found a pair of pants, two shirts, tapes, ropes and a country-made pistol,” she said.
Based on her complaint, the police have registered a case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act, and 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
CCTV footage
A senior police officer said they are trying to identify the criminals with the help of the belongings left behind. They are also checking CCTV footage from the area.
