Volunteers at Ramlila Maidan, venue for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Saturday rally, will remind people attending the event to use one of the 50 new dustbins.
The BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation, which owns the ground, has been sprucing up the venue ahead of the rally. North Corporation Mayor Yogender Chandolia said rallies end up leaving mounds of garbage for the civic body to clear.
“The Prime Minister is working to clean the country with the Swachh Bharat Mission, so we need to do our part. We have procured 50 large dustbins to put in the ground,” Mr. Chandolia said.
He added that BJP volunteers would encourage attendees to use the bins. “If that doesn’t work, we will make sure that the maidan is cleaned properly before leaving,” said Mr. Chandolia.
In addition to that, the civic body has been painting the walls and repairing the stage. Mr. Chandolia said construction and demolition waste along the route to the venue was also being lifted.
