Two police officers, who were on their way home, were allegedly robbed by four armed men on Friday night, the police said on Saturday. They also said that a driver, who had been kidnapped by the accused, was rescued later.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (PCR) S.D. Mishra said that two robbers, identified as Ramesh and Imran, were arrested, while the others managed to flee. The driver, who was rescued, had been allegedly kidnapped from Mundka. He has been identified as Manoj, Mr. Mishra said.
The police said that Constable Virender was dropping Assistant Sub-Inspector Anil in Rohini around 11.30 p.m. on Friday, when they were stopped by a vehicle.
“Four armed men came out of the vehicle and threatened the officers to hand over the key of their car. The officers resisted, after which a scuffle ensued. The accused managed to rob the officers of their mobile phones before they fled the spot,” Mr. Mishra said.
The officers who had noted the number of the accused’s vehicle immediately alerted nearby PCR vans. A police vehicle of outer zone, half an hour later, spotted two vehicles on Rohtak Road that matched the description of the vehicles of the accused.
“The staff tried to intercept both the vehicles, but could stop only one. The driver, however, managed to flee. Two occupants were overpowered and arrested,” Mr. Mishra said.
Manoj was found tied in the back seat of the accused’s car. Investigation later revealed that the car was robbed from Mundka and its driver Manoj was kidnapped, the police said. They also said that two guns, a countrymade pistol, a revolver and eleven cartridges were found in the car.
Teams are looking for the absconding accused, Mr. Mishra said.
