Three journalists have been targeted by motorbike-borne snatchers at three separate locations in the city, the police said on Monday.
In the first incident, a woman journalist working with a news channel had her phone snatched while she was covering PM Narendra Modi’s roadshow from IGI Airport on September 28.
“I immediately reported the incident to the policemen deployed for the PM’s security but they refused to help. I was hoping to get it back since the phone had not been switched off. I went to four policemen but they all refused to chase the man. I reported the incident at Delhi Cantonment police station, but to get an FIR filed, I had to request a senior police officer repeatedly,” said the victim, who did not wish to be identified.
A senior police officer said that an FIR has been registered in the case and the matter would be investigated.
In the second incident, Eva Thakur, an intern with an English daily, was heading towards her rented accommodation with her friend in an autorickshaw around 12.30 a.m. on September 28 when two bike-borne men snatched her bag near Kailash Colony metro station.
“I was in an autorickshaw with my friend when two men on a bike snatched my handbag. They were gone before I could understand what happened. Fortunately, my phone was not inside my bag. I called the police and reported the matter,” said Ms. Thakur.
A case of theft was registered at Amar Colony police station. Later, when the matter was raised with a senior officer, relevant IPC section of snatching was added.
In the third incident, Pushkar Bankar, another journalist with an English daily, was returning home with two of his friends in an autorickshaw on Sunday when his phone was snatched. He was sitting on the extreme left.
Fake registration
The incident happened on Ashram Flyover. A case of snatching was filed at Sunlight police station. The registration number of the accused’s bike provided by the victim was found to be fake.
“We have got certain leads. Two police teams are working on the cases reported at Amar Colony and Sunlight police stations,” an officer said.
