Over two lakh Delhiites have given suggestions to the BJP for inclusion as issues in its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections over the last ten days, the party’s national leadership said here on Wednesday.

Three ‘Sankalp Raths’, essentially heavy truck vehicles fitted with large LED screens informing the general public about the Narendra Modi government’s achievements, have been doing the rounds of Parliamentary Constituencies in Delhi to encourage citizens to give their suggestions to the BJP.

The programme is part of the ‘Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat Modi Ji Ke Saath’ initiative, launched by BJP national president Amit Shah on Feburary 3, which aims at reaching out to 10 crore citizens across the county to include their suggestions in the ‘Sankalp Patra’.

“So far, these vehicles have traversed the New Delhi, Chandni Chowk and North East Delhi [Parliamentary] Constituencies and will be connecting with citizens in the rest of the Parliamentary segments over the coming days,” programme convener and national executive member Aarti Mehra said.

“In Delhi, 150 suggestions boxes have been installed, which are part of a total 7,500 across the country, at various places including transit points from bus terminals to airports. Suggestions are also being collected from specific citizens’ focus groups and will be collated over a month before being assessed for inclusion in the party’s manifesto,” Ms. Mehra said.

BJP national vice-president and MP Vinay Sahasrabudhe said the initiative was part of the party’s strategy to seek the people’s mandate on the basis of the achievements of the Modi government, which had added “new dimensions to the development of the country”, including in defence acquisition.

The Comptroller and Auditor General’s report on the Rafale deal was tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

“Through surgical strikes, the government has given a befitting reply to enemies. The Modi government has also eliminated middlemen in defence procurements. Under Make in India, arms and ammunitions are manufactured in India,” he said at a press conference.

He added that innovation had been “given priority” and projects were being sanctioned through online bids on the basis of transparency. “Now, any businessman can become a partner in government projects. To end corruption in construction work, the quality is being tested through satellites,” he added.
