Sex racket busted, two held

South-east district police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a sex racket with the arrest of a woman and her live-in partner from Garhi Village. The duo are also proclaimed offenders in a gangrape case registered five years ago.

Sonu Bangalan alias Nina Soni and her partner Gaurav Anand, who worked as a taxi driver, ran a sex racket in the Capital and NCR, said the police. They added that the accused were in touch with ‘pimps’ from different parts of the country and looked for clients in Delhi. “There are instances of trafficking too,” said a senior police officer.

Cops tipped off

On Monday, the accused were arrested after the police received specific information about them coming to Garhi village, said DCP (South-East) Romil Baaniya. During questioning, Anand purportedly disclosed that he is a proclaimed offender in two cases registered in Delhi and Panchkula.

The police said Sonu Bangalan is a resident of West Bengal and that her husband left her and their two children. She came to Delhi and started living with one Atul Soni. When she met Gaurav Anand, she left Atul Soni and started living with him. Later, they both started running their racket, the police said.

“Gaurav said that he used to work as a driver in a call centre but later lost that job. He then had an altercation with his wife and left home before meeting Sonu.” said Mr. Baaniya.

The Shahdara gang rape case, said Mr. Baaniya, involved a woman living with Gaurav who alleged that he and Bangalan forced her to have intercourse with a group of men.
