The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has released ₹41.60 lakh for maintenance work ahead of Chhath Puja, the corporation said in a release on Friday.

SDMC Mayor Narendra Chawla said that the corporation had released ₹40,000 each for all its 104 wards. The funds will be utilised for improving streetlights near the ghats and other maintenance work.

In the release, the corporation said that it would set up health counters and ensure drinking water, civic amenities and general assistance during the festival. The civic body will also be carrying out fogging in the area to deal with the mosquito menace.

Meanwhile, the Mayor and the Standing Committee Chairperson of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) carried out inspections of ghats in Shahdara South to check preparations for the festival on Friday. EDMC Mayor Bipin Bihari Singh had earlier said that the civic body was allocating ₹10,000 each to the 51 ghats under its jurisdiction for maintenance work ahead of Chhath Puja.
