Russian woman alleges assault by BSP MLA's son

A young Russian woman was manhandled and threatened with a firearm allegedly by the son of a BSP MLA from Uttar Pradesh at Mehrauli here on Wednesday. The accused has gone underground.

The incident took place soon after the 24-year-old woman reached her rented accommodation around 5-30 a.m. “She returned from Russia in the early hours and took a taxi home. According to her, soon thereafter Vivek Singh entered her house and took up an altercation with her. She alleges that he was carrying a firearm,” said a police officer.

Enquiries by the police revealed that the victim knew Vivek Singh, son of a UP MLA, as they had worked as interns under a Gurgaon-based architect about a year ago. “Vivek had gone to the airport to receive her, but she had left by then. He then followed her and forced his way into her house. What exactly transpired is yet to be ascertained. However, the two had a heated exchange over some issue,” said the officer.

The victim alleged that after she locked herself in the bathroom fearing that Vivek would attack her, he decamped with her passport, a debit card and a mobile phone. However, the police are yet to establish the allegation.

Based on the preliminary findings, they have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. “He has been booked for alleged house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint,” said the officer, adding that Vivek was earlier arrested for allegedly opening fire at the bar manager in Nehru Place in 2009.
