In what is suspected to be an incident of road rage, two Delhi Police constables were shot at by a man driving an SUV in Narela on Wednesday night. One of the cops, Pawan, was shot in the leg, while the other one, Vikas, was hit with the pistol butt.

The attacker, who is currently absconding, could be a member of the Neetu Dabodia gang, said the police.

The incident happened when the two victims and a third constable, Vinod, had gone to see off a friend, Surender. The four were standing outside the DDA flats in a housing colony in Narela when a man driving an SUV allegedly started honking and asked them to move their car.

To this, Pawan replied that the road was wide enough for the SUV to drive past them, but the man insisted that they remove their car and an argument ensued, claimed the police.

Accused identified

“The man allegedly abused the cops and took out a pistol. He shot Pawan in his leg. When Vikas tried to pull him out of the car, he hit him with the pistol butt and sped away,” a senior police officer said. Vinod and Surender escaped unhurt and made a PCR Call and also rushed Pawan to the hospital. His conditional is now stable.

The accused has been identified and efforts are on to trace his whereabouts, said the police.

“We have identified the accused and the car. He is from Daboda village and our teams are raiding his hideouts to make the arrest,” the officer added.

Neetu Dabodia gang

The police said that the accused could be related to gangster Neetu Dabodia who had a clout in Outer Delhi before he was gunned down in an encounter nearly four years ago.

Constable Pawan Kumar is posted with the armed police unit while Vikas is posted at Narela police station. The Police have registered a case at Narela police station and are yet to make any arrests in the case.
