A 30-year-old man with a criminal record has been arrested in connection with the murder of builder Khaleel Ahmed at Lahori Gate in Delhi.
The victim was a registered bad character and previously involved in 45 criminal cases.
Tip-off
Khaleel had fallen out with one of his associates Mobin, who then hatched a conspiracy along with Rishi Gupta to eliminate him, the police said.
Rishi, a resident of Mandawali, was arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch at Shahdara metro station on Sunday following a tip-off.
Pistols seized
The police claim to have seized an automatic pistol, a country-made pistol and eight live cartridges from his possession.
Rishi purportedly told the police that he got acquainted with Khaleel and Mobin during their stay in Tihar Jail and later joined them in extorting money from builders and businessmen in Old Delhi.
But Khaleel and Mobin recently fell out and the latter hatched a conspiracy with Rishi to eliminate him.
Rishi and Mobin reached Khaleel’s office on May 30 around 11 p.m. While Rishi waited outside in a borrowed car, Mobin went inside and fired the shots.
The two then escaped to Uttar Pradesh to borrow money from one of their friends. They then drove towards Agra, where Mobin stayed back. Rishi returned to Delhi and went home after parking the vehicle at Karkardooma Courts complex.
The duo had visited Khaleel’s office twice before the actual murder, the police said.
Rishi was first arrested in an attempt to murder case in 2002 in Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested again in two more attempt to murder cases and a murder case.
His family then came to Delhi, where he was arrested in connection with a Rs.40-lakh robbery at the UTI bank in Vikaspuri in 2006.
