The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will organise ‘Raahgiri Day’ on Sunday morning at inner circle of Connaught Place, in which people can participate in various recreational activities.
During the event, a section of the road will be closed for traffic and will be open to public for walking, cycling among other activities and from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. tomorrow. The inner circle of Connaught Place will be closed for traffic.
Tomorrow being ‘World Cancer Day’, the event would also have a dedicated campaign against the disease and will focus on creating awareness on preventive measures against it. Delhi Police’s band will also perform at the event. There will be a street play too.
Preventive measures
Doctors from Max Hospital will help spread awareness about preventive measures against cancer and bursting common myths surrounding cancer patients and their quality of life after treatment.
‘Raahgiri Day’ began in Gurugram on November 17, 2013, and has now spread over 70 cities and 19 States across the country. Over 1.2 crore people have participated in various activities in the last five and half years, NDMC said.
“Aiming at creating awareness about road safety, promoting cycling, walking and use of public transport as envisaged in the National Urban transport policy, encouraging physical activities to promote healthy living and above all, it would support the idea of city development,” NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar said.
An NDMC spokesperson said that Raahgiri Day was being organised in the Capital after a long time. The event is being organised in collaboration with World Research Institute India and Delhi Police.
