Days after an alleged cattle thief was beaten to death by a family in Bahrola village here, the Palwal police on Sunday said efforts were on to establish the identity of the deceased. Two of the accused in the case are still absconding.

Will wait for 3 days

Palwal Superintendent of Police Waseem Akram said people came from Bhind and Kannauj to identify the deceased after the news of the incident spread but he is yet to be identified.

“Our priority is to identify the deceased. We have informed neighbouring police stations and also uploaded his picture on the Zonal Integrated Police Network but in vain. We will wait for three more days before cremating the body,” said Mr. Akram.

He said that a police team led by Sadar police station SHO Inspector Devender Kumar visited the spot on Sunday afternoon to record the statements of the family members to rule out contradictions. Mr. Akram said accused brothers Bir Singh and Prakash were still absconding. “Efforts are on to trace them,” he said.
