Minister seeks inclusion of more institutes in free coaching scheme

Some institutes vow to use their CSR funds for programme

Delhi SC/ST Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam on Monday chaired a meeting with around 15 heads private coaching institutes to include more such institutes in an existing free coaching programme for SC students.

Under the ‘Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana’, the government currently pays a maximum of ₹40,000 to selected eight institutes for the coaching of each student. Apart from it, a monthly stipend of ₹2,500 is given to each student.

“The amount will be increased from ₹40,000 to ₹1,50,000 and the duration of the coaching will also be extended. The government is ready to rope in more reputed institutes under the scheme,” the Minister had said last month.

“The Minister chaired a high-level meeting today with representatives of various reputed institutes like Aakash, Chanakya, Nirvana, ALS, Dhyeya 635, GS World, Time, Khan Study Group, Ramaswamy, Dhrishti, Pahuja Law Academy,” an official statement said Monday.

An official said that some of the institutes had promised to use their CSR funds for the scheme.

About 4,953 SC students were enrolled under the coaching for different competitive exams in the first year of the scheme which was launched in 2018.
