A 15-year-old mentally challenged girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a neighbour who abducted her from outside her house in Govindpuri on Thursday night. The accused has been arrested.
The police said the accused abducted the victim when she had gone to relieve herself. When the girl’s grandmother did not find her at home she raised an alarm.
The grandmother told the police that when she woke up, she found the girl missing and started looking for her in the locality. While she and a few neighbours were searching for the girl, one of them heard her crying for help from a room.
The grandmother barged into the room and found the girl lying naked on the bed and the accused trying to flee.
She screamed for help and a few youths from the locality caught hold of the man and thrashed him, the police said.
The accused admitted that he had abducted and raped the girl. The police were informed about the incident and the accused was handed over to them.
