The Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti members continued their drive to forcibly shut the meat shops across the Millennium City on Thursday in view of the nine-day festival of Navratri. They alleged that most of the meat shops in the city were illegal, but the administration had failed to take action against them.
The police took five Samiti members into preventive custody in the small hours of Thursday.
Hindu Kranti Dal leader Rajiv Mittal said the Samiti members went across the city in separate groups to ensure that all meat shops were closed. “We covered all those areas where we had gone on Wednesday. Most of the shops were found closed. We requested those who had opened their shops to shut them in view of Navratri,” said Mr. Mittal.
He said the Samiti members met Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh during the day requesting him to take action against the illegal shops. Mr. Mittal claimed that Mr. Singh gave them a patient hearing and assured action.
Necessary action
The Samiti members also called upon Gurugram Police Commissioner K.K. Rao accusing the police of misbehaviour while arresting their activists in the middle of the night. Mr. Mittal said Mr. Rao also assured probe into the matter and necessary action. The five activists were released on bail later in the day.
