A young man has been arrested for allegedly posing as a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector and cheating several people on the pretext of providing them government jobs. He would charge Rs.1.5 lakh to Rs.2 lakh from his victims.
Robin Khan, who is the son of Indo-Tibetan Border Police Assistant Sub-Inspector, used his knowledge about the functioning of the police department to dupe people, the police said.
Robin bought himself a police uniform from a local market near the Police Training School in Wazirabad after he failed to clear an entrance test of the Delhi Police and falsely claimed to his relatives and friends that he had been appointed as a Sub-Inspector in the Delhi Police.
He would walk around in uniform to convince people that he was a Sub-Inspector and duped people by falsely promising them that he knew senior government officials and could get them jobs.
The fraud came to light when he allegedly cheated his former school-mate Jai Bharat, who is now a sales executive with a hotel in Karol Bagh, of Rs.2.14 lakh on the pretext of providing a job to his younger brother in the Indian Railways and also fraudulently withdrew over Rs.1 lakh from his bank account using his debit cards.
Jai told the police in his complaint that Robin had met him posing as a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector recently and offered to provide a job to his younger brother boasting connections with senior government officials. Jai then claimed to have paid Rs.2.14 lakh to Robin in three instalments.
On June 4, Robin had stayed with Jai in his room in the hotel and left early in the morning. Later Jai received a text message on his mobile phone about withdrawal of Rs.40,000 from his bank account. Jai then realised that Robin had stolen his debit card and got the PIN from his mobile phone and withdrew the money. When Jai checked on his second debit card, he realised it too was stolen and Rs.74,000 withdrawn.
Robin was arrested in Jalandhar.
