A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a senior citizen in Greater Noida over parking issue, the police said on Tuesday.

The incident happened at 8 p.m. on Monday, when 60-year-old Ram Prasad, a resident of Surya Heights Apartments in Greater Noida’s Bisrakh, was assaulted by three persons near the society.

Shravan Kumar, a resident of Surya Heights Apartments, was arrested and efforts are on to identify the other two accused, the police said. Prasad, who belongs to Bareilly, is employed as an electrician-cum-staff member by the builder.

“Based on Prasad’s complaint, we booked Shravan and two unknown persons under Sections 323, 504 and 506 [for voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult and criminal intimidation] respectively. CCTV footage showed the trio assaulting the victim. Shravan was nabbed from his residence on Tuesday,” said Nishank Sharma, Circle Officer, Bisrakh.

Shravan parked his SUV near a building in the society around 12 p.m. on Monday when the incident happened, the police said.

A JCB machine driven by a labourer was removing rubble from one of the buildings and Prasad was overseeing the task.

“The JCB machine caused a minor dent in Shravan’s SUV, after which he got into an altercation with its driver. However, the issue was resolved when Prasad intervened and asked Shravan to park his vehicle outside the society till the work was finished. The accused then parked it outside but came back around 8 p.m., with his two friends and assaulted Prasad,” said Anil Kumar Shahi, SHO, Bisrakh police station. The victim claimed that he had no past altercation with Shravan. “I was coming from a nearby shop at 8 p.m. when I saw three men approaching me near the gate. Then they assaulted me,” said Prasad.

The police said they are questioning Shravan. “We will arrest the other two soon,” said Mr. Shahi.
