Putting rumours about his resignation to bed, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken on Thursday tweeted that he was suffering from an irreversible and progressive orthopaedic ailment. He said that it was painful but not life-threatening.

“Seeking third opinion on the exact cause-to arrest progression and obliterate pain [sic],” said Mr. Maken thanking people for their good wishes.

On Tuesday, reports had spread that Mr. Maken had resigned from his post as DPCC president. Dismissing them as “rumours”, the Congress had said that he had gone abroad for a health check-up.

AICC in charge of Delhi P.C. Chacko had said that Mr. Maken had not resigned and had gone abroad for a medical check-up after informing Congress president Rahul Gandhi about his trip.

Illegal sealing

Mr. Maken is set to return on September 22 and participate in a ‘mahapanchayat’ of 365 villages against “illegal” sealing in South Delhi’s Rangpuri on September 23.

The Delhi Congress said that Delhi villages are undergoing the worst plight as their lands were appropriated by the DDA and private builders at throwaway prices.

They said that now the only source of income for the villagers is the rent they get from their properties, but even this is being snatched away from them through the illegal sealing.

Congress leader Mukesh Sharma said that the villages in the Delhi borders and people from urban villages will attend the Mahapanchayat at Rangpuri to endorse their support for the “Nyay Yudh” agitation of the Congress against the ongoing sealing drive in the city.
