GST will motivate industry: SCOPE

May 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Even as the Union Government has sent the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, passed by the Lok Sabha, to a Rajya Sabha committee for vetting, the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) on Thursday complimented the Centre for bringing convergence through simplicity, transparency and harmonisation of tax regime.

Addressing an interactive session on “Getting ready for GST” here, SCOPE Director-General U.D. Choubey said India would be joining over 140 countries which had gone for tax reforms and were converging their tax regime to arrive at a single tax system.

“GST will motivate the industry for enhancing goods and services for better economic order,” said Dr. Choubey.

The session was organised jointly by SCOPE and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). SCOPE is the apex body of the Union Government-owned public enterprises.
