An eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a maulvi inside a madrasa in Barola village in Sector 49 on Saturday afternoon.
According to the police, maulvi Saba Karim, (28) allegedly assaulted the girl when she went to study at the madrasa.
“According to the complaint filed by the father, the girl had gone to study at the madrasa on Saturday. She was alone in the room when Karim tried to force himself on the girl. When she tried to stop him, he thrashed her and even threatened to kill her if she disclosed about the incident to anyone,” said Arun Kumar, Superintendent of Police (City), Gautam Budh Nagar. On returning home, the girl narrated the ordeal to her parents, the police said. The accused is a distant cousin of the victim. Karim has been on the run since the incident happened, the police added. The girl was sent for medical examination to confirm assault, and the report is awaited.
