Finland national raped after night out

Victim works here in the Capital

A 30-year-old Finland national was allegedly raped by a young man at a guest house in Hauz Khas here in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the police, accused Elvis Menttanna is a translator with a multinational company. He has been arrested. Originally from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Menttanna stays with his parents in Mumbai, the police said.

The victim also works in a multinational company here in the Capital and had come to India over a month ago, sources said.

The woman met Menttanna on Friday night at a discotheque here after dinner at a Greater Kailash restaurant. They danced together and had drinks till the early hours, after which she said she wanted to leave and came out to look for a taxi.

Menttanna purportedly offered to drop her home and took her to the guest house. He then allegedly raped her and threatened her not to mention the incident to anyone. The woman approached the police on Saturday and lodged a complaint. After a medical examination of the victim confirmed rape, the police registered a case under Section 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code at the Hauz Khas police station.
