Scores of contractual workers employed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport held a protest at Jantar Mantar here on Monday to demand permanent positions.

Workers engaged in loading and packing jobs at the Airports Authority of India and Indian Airlines demanded abolition of contract labour and asked the Ministry of Labour and Employment to intervene.

According to a memorandum sent to the Minister by the Airport Employees Union, the Central Advisory Contract Labour Board had recommended abolition of contracts for loaders and packers at IGI in its meeting in May last.

“The Board had notified its decision to the Ministry on June 12, 2014, but the issuance of a gazette notification is pending,” said the memorandum, adding that regularisation of the workers should be taken up at the earliest.
