The Danish woman, who was allegedly gang-raped by eight persons in the New Delhi district last year, on Wednesday identified three of the six adult accused before a Sessions court here. Two of the accused are juvenile and facing inquiry before the Juvenile Justice Board.
The six adult accused are Mahendra alias Ganja, Mohd Raja, Raju, Arjun, Raju Chakk and Shyam Lal. All of them are in judicial custody.
She identified them as the ones who had sexually assaulted her on January 14 last year while recording her evidence before Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja, who is conducting trial of the case at Tis Hazari district courts.
She pointed towards 24-year-old accused Mahendra and said that he had threatened her with a knife when another accused was raping her. She also testified that Mahendra was the gang leader. The woman has arrived in the Capital from Denmark on a summons by the court asking her to record her evidence in the case.
Though initially, she was able to identify four of the adult accused, later she clarified to the court that she was sure about only three of them, citing the time gap between the incident and the recording of her statement.
During her nearly five hours of recording of evidence, the woman broke down twice. Later, she was examined by the counsel for the accused.
The Delhi Police have charged the accused with robbing and gang-raping the 52-year-old woman at knifepoint after dragging her to a deserted place near the Divisional Railway Officers’ Club, which is located about a few hundred metres from the New Delhi Railway station.
The woman had come to India on a tour.
The court is scheduled to record the evidence of two Danish police officers, who had investigated the case in Denmark, on Thursday.
Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Shrivastav told The Hindu over phone that he would prove medical evidence of the case.
