Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated installation of CCTV cameras in his constituency, New Delhi, on Sunday and made a case for the role it will play in checking crime.
After inaugurating cameras at government employees’ residential colony on Pandara Road and at Laxmi Bai Nagar, he met residents and thanked them. Mr. Kejriwal said the network of CCTV cameras will help solve crimes, making reference to a recent rape case of a six-year-old, which was solved with the help of CCTV footage.
Addressing the concerns over rising rate of crime in the Capital, the Chief Minister said, “The Centre and Delhi Police need to step up security in the city. We will work together to make Delhi safer.”
In a statement, he said that as part of the city-wide programme to install CCTVs, under which an average of 4,000 cameras are to be set up in each Assembly constituency, installation of the first batch of 2,000 had been initiated and tenders for the second batch were under process.’In the New Delhi constituency alone, a survey done by the Chief Minister’s constituency team estimates that there is a requirement of a total of 4,300 CCTV cameras, the statement added.
