The maximum temperature in the city touched 40 degrees Celsius for the first time this season on Monday which was three degrees above normal for the season.
The Meteorological Department has forecast intense weather conditions on April 16 and 17 with possibility of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, hailstorm and squalls with a wind speed of 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph which is likely to check the rising temperature.
The forecast reads, “Generally cloudy sky with dust storm, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, squall and hail with strong winds between 60-70 kmph.” The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be between 36 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively.
Western disturbance
In its weather bulletin on Sunday, the MeT Department said that an analysis of weather conditions, numerical model products, satellite information indicate that a strong western disturbance is approaching and would adversely affect weather over north-west India, including Delhi-NCR between April 15 and 17 with peak activity on April 16.
Intense rainfall spells also likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and east Uttar Pradesh as well, said the MeT Department had said.
