In the wake of a blast at Nirankari Bhavan in Amritsar on Sunday morning, the Delhi Police has stepped up security at Nirankari Sarovar in north Delhi’s Burari. The city has been put on high alert.
A senior police officer said the security at Nirankari Sarovar has been beefed up. ‘ Parakram ’, an anti-terrorism van has been deployed at the Sarovar.
The premises has been barricaded and CCTV cameras around it have been thoroughly checked. Police personnel have been deployed in plain clothes to gather information and keep an eye on anti-social elements.
All borders of Delhi have also been put on high alert. Random checking of vehicles have been started at several places. “The Capital is on high alert after we got inputs from the Punjab Police regarding the movement of six to seven Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists from Punjab to Delhi,” said a police officer. “All districts and other units like the Crime branch and the Special Cell have started massive combing operations across the city,” he added.
Patrolling and surveillance have been increased in sensitive areas. All vital installations in Delhi, including India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan, railway stations have been put on high alert.
The police said they have sensitised people who live in or go to places that see high footfall. “We request citizens to immediately contact us if they notice any suspicious activity,” the officer said. The police heads of adjoining States have also been asked to deploy extra staff at borders.
