The Capital witnessed “good” air quality on Saturday owing to continuing rain, revealed data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

This is the second time this year that the air quality touched the “good” category. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded at 48, which falls under the “good” category, indicated the apex pollution control board’s data.

Quality demarcations

While an AQI in the range of 0-51 is considered “good”, 51-100 is “satisfactory” and 101-200 is “moderate.” On the other hand, an AQI in the range of 201-300 is considered “poor”, 301-400 “very poor” and 401-500 is “severe.”

The CPCB officials attributed the improved air quality to the continuing monsoon, adding that the rains have washed away the pollutants.

Till 8.30 a.m. on Saturday morning, the observatory at Safdarjung recorded 26.8 mm of rainfall. The rains also brought down the mercury by six degrees and the maximum and minimum temperature settled at 27.7 degrees Celsius and 22.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

The MeT department has predicted rain on September 23 as well.
