A South Delhi businessman was shot at by a group of men at his home in Neb Sarai area during the wee hours of Tuesday. The victim sustained two bullet injuries after the assailants fired several rounds at him. His condition is serious.

While fleeing from the crime spot, the assailants happened to drop a country-made pistol. Police have seized the weapon and have begun the probe after registering an FIR in this connection at Neb Sarai police station. Investigators said, prima facie, the attack appears to be the result of a dispute between the victim and his Haryana-based relatives. However, the attempt to murder case had been registered against unidentified persons as of now as no suspects have been identified yet.

The victim has been identified as Praveen Kumar, a 29-year-old businessman who lives with his family in Devli area. According to the police, there were four assailants who first looked around in the neighbourhood for the victim’s house before attacking him. “The men rang the door bell and the door was opened by Praveen’s wife Pooja. She was asked to inform Praveen about their visit,” said a police officer.

As soon as Praveen arrived at the door, the assailants opened fire at him. The sound of the gunshots drew Pooja and their neighbours to the spot, forcing the assailants to flee.

The victim, meanwhile, had collapsed on the floor. He was rushed to a hospital even as police were informed. CCTV footage from the locality is being scanned for clues into the suspects’ identities.
